Admission to Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) across India, including EMRS Salia, Anantnag, is conducted through a National Level Entrance Examination organized by the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.
Eligibility Criteria
1. Tribal Community Requirement:
Only students belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST) as recognized under Article 342 of the Constitution of India are eligible.
Candidate must possess valid ST certificate issued by competent authority.
2. Age Criteria (as on 1st April of academic year):
For Class VI: Minimum 10 years, Maximum 13 years
For Class IX: Minimum 13 years, Maximum 15 years
For Class XI: Minimum 15 years, Maximum 17 years
Age relaxation as per Government norms may apply
3. Educational Qualification:
For Class VI: Passed Class V from recognized school
For Class IX: Passed Class VIII from recognized school
For Class XI: Passed Class X from recognized board with minimum required percentage
4. Income Criteria:
Annual family income should not exceed the limit prescribed by NESTS (currently ?2.5 lakh per annum)
Income certificate from competent authority required
5. Residential Requirement:
Preference given to students from remote, tribal-dominated areas
Distance from school location considered for admission priority

Selection Process
1. Entrance Test: National level written examination 2. Merit List: Prepared based on entrance test scores 3. Reservation: As per Government of India norms:
7.5% for Scheduled Tribes (ST)
